ADA Seal

With all of the oral hygiene products sold these days it can sometimes be hard to choose which products are right for your and your family. Persuasive marketing messages can sometimes make it hard to spot the difference between an ineffective product and one that will effectively meet your needs.

There are some oral hygiene products that are only intended for cosmetic use. The active ingredients in many of these products are designed to freshen your breath, rather than play a primary role in your oral hygiene routine.

In order to better help people identify safe and effective oral hygiene products the American Dental Association instituted their Seal of Acceptance program. The program started in 1931 and has become the standard of quality for participating manufacturers.

Participation in the program is voluntary. When a manufacturer launches a new oral hygiene product they can choose to submit it to the ADA for testing and research. The Seal of Acceptance program tests the active ingredients for safety and its effectiveness as part of an oral hygiene routine. If the product meets the rigorous guidelines, it will receive certification for the Seal of Acceptance to be printed on the label.

The ADA provides an index of all oral hygiene products that have earned the seal on their website.
