Dental Checkups: The Reasons Why They’re Important

Posted .

Dental checkups and cleanings are vital for your oral health, but do you ever wonder why? If so, our Ferguson & Associates, DDS team is more than happy to tell you why!

Dental checkups and cleanings are important because of these three reasons:

Reason No. 1: The most important aspect of your checkup is the dental cleaning. This cleaning scrubs and scrapes each tooth, removing the plaque and tartar from the surface of your smile. This is extremely important because plaque and tartar tend to attack the teeth and irritate the gums, creating tooth decay and gum disease. This could cause pain, inflammation, and an unattractive smile.

Reason No. 2: Your appointment will also include an examination, which is also very important. The examination will involve your dentist visually examining your oral cavity and taking a few X-rays. This is a great way to determine if you have any dental issues in your teeth, gums, or underlying bone. If you do, your dentist can begin treatment right away.

Reason No. 3: The fluoride treatment at the end of your appointment is also very helpful. It comes in the form of a foam, gel, or varnish, and it only lasts a few minutes. The fluoride will penetrate into your tooth enamel and give it the strength to fight bacteria and other harmful particles that threaten your teeth and smile.

So, now that you know why dental cleanings and exams are so vital, it’s time to schedule your next appointment! Dr. Sean Ferguson and our dental team will be more than happy to meet with you and deeply clean your smile so you can have the good oral health you deserve. We look forward to hearing from you!
