How to Manage a Loose Bridge

Posted .

When Ferguson & Associates, DDS restored your tooth with a bridge, it was intended to last for many years. Unfortunately, things like chronic periodontal disease, a hard fall or a blow to the face, can compromise the cement or the abutments anchoring your bridge in place.

If any part of your bridge is loose, wiggles or feels out of place, you need to call Ferguson & Associates, DDS as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. Left unaddressed the problem could quickly escalate into something serious.

If you can’t immediately contact Ferguson & Associates, DDS, there are a few tips to help you properly manage the problem. If any part of the bridge is loose, you shouldn’t play with it with your tongue or wiggle it in anyway. If you need to eat something, try to stick to soft foods and avoid chewing on that side of your mouth. The more you manipulate it, the more likely you are to damage the bridge or one of the abutments.

You can gently rinse the area with salt water, if there is blood or debris in your mouth. Do not attempt to clean the bridge of the surrounding teeth in any way. Any cleaning should be left to the highly trained professionals at Ferguson & Associates, DDS.

If any part of your bridge is loose, you should call Ferguson & Associates, DDS as soon as possible at 704-786-8317 to schedule an appointment.
